Problem
Guests at Orbi Hotels experienced delays during check-in and check-out, especially during peak hours. The manual process caused inefficiencies, negatively impacting both guest satisfaction and hotel operations. A quicker, more efficient, and contactless solution was needed.
Solution
The Kiosk Check-In App was designed to provide a self-service solution for guests, allowing them to check in, check out, or walk in with ease. This streamlined process reduces wait times, improves efficiency, and offers a more convenient, contactless experience.
Overview
I designed the Kiosk Check-In App for Orbi Hotels, creating a simple, user-friendly interface for seamless check-ins, check-outs, and walk-ins. The app enhances the overall guest experience by offering quick, efficient service with minimal interaction.
Information architecture
The Kiosk Check-In App offers three distinct user flows to accommodate
different guest needs:
-
Check-In Flow: Guests can quickly check in by scanning their booking details, selecting room preferences, and completing payments.
-
Check-Out Flow: Guests can easily check out by reviewing their bill, completing any remaining payments, and confirming departure.
-
Walk-In Flow: New guests can register, select room preferences, make payments, and complete their check-in on the kiosk without prior booking.
Each flow is designed to be intuitive, minimizing guest wait times and enhancing efficiency.

Kiosk-specific design
The Kiosk Check-In App is specifically tailored for kiosk use, with a focus on touch-based interactions and large-screen optimization.
The app’s design prioritizes simplicity and ease of use, ensuring that guests can interact with the kiosk quickly and efficiently.
Every component, from buttons to menus, has been adapted to fit the physical kiosk setup.
The app was developed to ensure a seamless, efficient, and user-friendly experience unique to kiosk interactions.
Challenges
-
Touchscreen Navigation: Optimizing the user interface for large touchscreen kiosks was challenging, particularly for standing users.
-
Hardware Compatibility: Ensuring the app worked consistently across different kiosk devices and hardware configurations.
-
User Clarity: Designing an intuitive interface that minimized the need for instructions, ensuring smooth user flow for all guests, regardless of their tech experience.
Solutions
-
Large, Clear Buttons: Buttons were designed larger and spaced appropriately for touch navigation, ensuring easy interaction.
-
Responsive Design: The app was developed to adapt seamlessly to various kiosk hardware, ensuring consistent performance across devices.
-
Simplified Flow: The app’s flow was streamlined with clear visual cues and minimal steps to enhance user comprehension and speed up the process.

Design System
I developed a universal design system for the Kiosk Check-In App based on the Orbi Hotels logo and brand identity. By incorporating their color palette, typography, and visual language, I ensured consistency across all elements. I designed UI components, such as buttons and form fields, to align with the brand while enhancing usability. This design system guarantees a cohesive experience for users and ensures that future touchpoints remain consistent with the brand’s identity.
Final Product
The Kiosk Check-In App provides an intuitive self-service experience for Orbi Hotel guests, streamlining check-ins, check-outs, and walk-ins. Optimized for kiosk hardware, it enhances efficiency and maintains brand consistency, improving guest satisfaction.
